Behind The Grind: Black Cloud Music-Noa James
9092951: I think it’s safe to say that a bulk of your music reflects the darker side of your past, is there any fondness you can remember from either living in Queens or making that move to California?
"Did I mention
NOA JAMES: Really none. All my happy moments came when I was living in Cali. Then my grandfather passed away. The type [of] memories I have is like, going to crack houses looking for my mom or sleeping on the stoop for a week waiting on her to come home from jail and never came home. I was lost until my lil’ brother was born then I had a purpose. You can say my brother is my fond memories of my past.
9092951: What are some of your favorite lyrics from a Black Cloud Music artist?
9092951: You’re known as a real giver on the I.E. hip hop scene, providing several artists with public arenas in which to express themselves; what is the significance of giving back to your community?
Never fuck her on period
I guess that I'm a run on sentence"
NOA JAMES: When I was coming up in the IE in the music scene, really no one gave me a chance but Adseg and Ramone Jones and Jynxx, so it was hard for me to get shows or get on a site, so what I did was create my own that became ours that’s why I do it, I want everybody that do this from the heart and put in a lot [of] work to have a platform to showcase they talents I think I’m just doing what I’m supposed to be. I feel like this is what I’m here for.
9092951: What was your earliest experience with hip hop?
NOA JAMES: I remember I was 11 at a Boys and Girls Club rapping over D-Generation-X intro music I thought I was cold because I just got a s-curl with a Jordon symbol in the back. LOL. I was on.
9092951: You’ve been around to see the “olden” days of I.E. hip hop and you’ve helped usher in the spirit of where it is now—what would you say are some key differences in the culture from then to now?
NOA JAMES: The city and local media showing a little bit more support to the local artist, mainstream radio hosts is really reaching out and rooting for the local artists, FANS FANS FANS! LOL. Now you can gain a following out here and not just homies you went to school with, I mean some real fans. And not so much hate, there’s unity out here when we need it.
